Run by the Austin family, the Sycamore Drive-In is one of those lovely throw-backs to the 1950s that you occasionally find along the way -- it has car-hop service, you just flash your lights and they come out to take your order. But more fun is going inside. We highly recommend the "French style" steak burgers.
I learned about the Sycamore Drive-In through the Roadfood.com website, which is a treasure for road food afficionados. Nancy and I made our pilgrimage here while on the east coast in September 2003.
Review
Comes in the frosted glass mug, always a good way to start your root beer experience. Big head, maple-syrup-like lead, almost like drinking pancakes -- mmm! Very vanilla. Maple syrup aftertaste, then a coffee-like aftertaste that lingers. "The sweetness is just right," opines Nancy, "it's light but very flavorful." Luke says, "Way tasty!"
