Hard Times Cafe

Root Beer

"Made with honey from Virginia"

"Bottled exclusively for the Hard Times Cafe World Famous Chili Parlors

by Old Dominion Brewing Co."

Old Dominion also markets this root beer under its own label as Dominion.

Review

Honey nose.  Strong honey flavor, slightly metallic aftertaste.  Sweet and smooth, not much in the rootiness department.  Strong carbonation that dissipates into honey on the tongue.  Note:  Interestingly, this root beer was reviewed separately from Dominion (same company, apparently the same brew), and it scored differently in the numbers (Dominion was quite rooty, this one not, for example) but the same in over-all average.  Hmm.

Ingredients:  carbonated water, sugar, honey, maltodextrin, flavor extracts, yucca, sodium benzoate -- a preservative -- and citric acid.  Contains no caffeine.  12 oz. bottle.  No nutritional information provided on bottle.  It is interesting to note that even though this and Dominion are identical root beers made by the same brewery, they list slightly different ingredients on theirs labels.
