Journey John Barleycorn
Root Beer
"Nutty Malty Foamy" "Historic Brew"
Journey Food & Beverage Company, Route 5 near Town Farm Road, Putney, Vermont 05346
I really like what the Journey folks are setting out to do, with a variety of root beer flavors such as Shenandoah Sassafras and Desert Sage, and this John Barleycorn. I just wish I liked the actual root beers themselves more!
From the bottle:
A diverse collection of root bark tea and root brew recipes is the source for Journey's Historic Brews. Native Americans shared intense aromatic root tea with conquistadores in the 1500's. Since then, the Anglos, Germans, Scandinavians and Americans have blended and brewed an estimated 60 root beer types over the last five centuries. John Barleycorn brings back Scottish and Irish American root beer traditions. Heady malted barley creates a smooth taste and sweet aroma.
Review:
Strong nose, malty lead, fruity cherry finish. Smooth, not much carbonation. An interesting combination. Guest root beer reviewer Daniel opines, "good but slightly bitter taste, sweet and malty. A bit too sweet, I didn't like the malty taste that much."
