Mike Carmichael is an American visionary.  Back in 1977, he began painting a baseball, and now, 27 years and over 18,000 coats of paint later, he has the World's Largest Ball of Paint.  His wife supports his pursuit, and has painted the ball thousands of times herself.

Below Mike demonstrates how it all began -- with a baseball.  That's the ball of paint in the background.
