Mimetic Architecture
The Big Duck
Flanders, New York

This is the Ur-mimetic icon, so famous that such pieces of roadside architecture are called "ducks." It has been moved around a few times over the years in this region of Long Island, but now presides over a park in Flanders. The gift shop inside is a roadside collector's dream, with every conceivable item with a Big Duck on it, from earrings to magnets to shirts to bags, as well as books on such roadside fun. What a delight!
