Milk Can

Salvador's Ice Cream, 460 Smith Neck Road, Dartmouth, Massachusetts 02748

This wonderful piece began life in New Bedford, was moved to its present location in 1935, and opened in 1936 as an ice cream stand attached to a working dairy (see its history at Salvador's website).  Today, the daughters of the nephew and niece of the original owners are once again running it as an ice cream stand, and hope to secure historic preservation funds to restore the can to its former glory.  They no longer make their own ice cream, but the Hood's they serve up is mighty tasty.  (That's Nancy getting a coffee ice cream.)  They also have Salvador's postcards, bumper stickers and drinking cups for sale.

The old sign; owner and ice-cream scooper Carol Brasells, who is leading the efforts to restore the can; and a close-up of the handle, showing the need for some restoration.
