Hit 200 Mark:  February 24, 1995 -- Varied Thrush.

Current Total:  232

Has been birding Kings County since:  1993

Home:  Fresno

Claim to fame:  Numerous first county records, including White-rumped Sandpiper (12-14 Oct 01) and Common Grackle (1 Mar 99).  Documented breeding Least Terns; on record-holding Big Day team.

OK, but what have you done for us lately?  Still regularly monitoring several sites in the County.


John Luther

 

Hit 200 Mark:  July 9, 1999 -- Marbled Godwit, while birding with Kent Van Vuren.

Current Total:  212 NIB  (as of 6/1/04)

Has been birding Kings County since:  the early 1970s, but not very many times each year.

Home: Oakland, Alameda County, about 3 hours north of Kings

Claim to fame:  Found the County's first Prairie Warbler, November 26, 1977; once held Big Day record for Kings.

OK, but what have you done for us lately?  Not much, but found a Ruddy Turnstone Oct 17, 2003 for 210.  I have been spending too much time birding the other 57 counties in California (now have seen over 200 species in each California county) and the rest of the world.

Hit 200 Mark:  August 29, 2001 -- Western Bluebird at Tar Canyon.

Has been birding Kings County since: 1990

Home: San Francisco.

Claim to fame:  Part of record-setting big day teams, organized current record-holding team; found first county Glaucous-winged Gull, second county record of Brown Pelican.  Helped put together the Checklist of the Birds of Kings County.

OK, but what have you done for us lately?  Not a whole heck of a lot.  Read about a lot of great Kings birds while acting as subregional editor for Kings for North American Birds; wish I had seen a few of them.

Has been birding Kings County since:  1981

Home:  Woodland

Claim to fame: found the first county record of Rose-breasted Grosbeak on the 4th of July.  Suffered through several Big Days.
